Ricky Gervais has admitted that he regrets making a joke about actor Tim Allen through the 2011 Golden Globes.
The comic, 58, is ready to host the annual movie and TV awards ceremony for a report fifth time, and has previously sparked controversy with outrageous punchlines, many aimed on the present’s celeb friends.
Discussing his previous experiences presenting the Globes, Gervais instructed the Hollywood Reporter that he felt dangerous about poking enjoyable at Allen, 66, whereas introducing him to the stage alongside his Toy Story co-star Tom Hanks.
“What can I say about our subsequent two presenters?” Gervais mentioned on the time.
“The primary is an actor, producer and director whose motion pictures have grossed over $three.5 billion on the field workplace. He’s received two Academy Awards and three Golden Globes for his highly effective and diversified performances, starring in such movies as Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Castaway, Apollo 13 and Saving Personal Ryan.
“The opposite… is Tim Allen.”
Gervais instructed the journal that he thought Allen “took [the joke] incorrect” and that the punchline may have been aimed toward any star apart from the likes of “Dustin Hoffman or Robert Redford or Robert De Niro.”
“The joke was him and Tom Hanks,” he defined. “So I got here out and mentioned, ‘Our subsequent two presenters, the primary has received 5 Oscars, mixed field workplace of 5 billion . And the opposite, Tim Allen.’ Proper?
“It’s a high-quality joke. I’m teasing Tim Allen. However anybody standing subsequent to Tom Hanks, except it’s Dustin Hoffman or Robert Redford or Robert De Niro, that may very well be me. But it surely occurred to be Tim Allen.”

Gervais mentioned he has “nothing towards Tim Allen,” describing him as “ actor” and “most likely a pleasant bloke.”
“So though there’s no malice and I can justify it comedically and everybody laughed, I didn’t need Tim Allen to assume, ‘Oh, that was written for me. Why me?’” he added.
“Nicely, since you have been standing subsequent to Tom Hanks.”
Gervais, who has beforehand focused the likes of Mel Gibson, Ben Affleck and Charlie Sheen in his Golden Globes remarks, instructed the Hollywood Reporter that he’ll “go after the overall [Hollywood] group” and “pretension and hypocrisy” at this 12 months’s ceremony.
The 77th annual Golden Globes will happen on the Beverly Hilton Lodge from 1am GMT (8pm EST) on Monday January 6.
