Your Girl Sleep With Others
four stars
There may be much more to indie Taiwanese band Your Girl Sleep With Others past a provocative title. (Its Chinese language moniker is the tamer Lao Wang Yue Dui, or Outdated Wang’s Band.)
It is a debut album brimming with concepts.
Instrumental opener Did It Once more has a pastoral vibe that reminds one among American indie people band Fleet Foxes.
In the meantime, the melodic, melancholic In Your Face brings to thoughts fellow Taiwanese indie band No Occasion For Cao Dong. Lead singer Joshua Chang of quintet Your Girl is much less angsty although, at the same time as he grapples with stark realities: “When anger has settled in my coronary heart, will there be somebody to assuage me.”
The temper is sombre on We Want To Stay A Common Life: “Life after youth/Is sort of a cliff/Cannot cease when you fall.”
That is not at all a downer of a report, although.
There may be as a substitute a bracing honesty right here. As Chang sings on Take pleasure in: “In a time when happiness and disappointment are written on our faces/We needn’t disguise our emotions.”
